Polish Review: Dream Designer Nail Kit

Today I have two beautiful polishes from Dream Designer Nail Kit, an awesome little indie shop that has all kinds of goodies waiting for you.
DSC_0281
First up I have Royal Flush, listed as a rich purple base with shiny silver shimmer, Royal Flush dries to a matte finish without topcoat.

Isn’t it gorgeous? This polish truly is a stunner. The formula is flawless. It dries quickly and is very true to color. Two coats and you’ll reach complete opacity.

This is two coats of Royal Flush with a topcoat (indoor with flash). The shine and sparkle in this polish is simply stunning.
DSC_0319
Here it is in direct sunlight and it’s even more gorgeous.
DSC_0323
*sigh* Sooooo pretty!

Going Home Blues is my favorite of the two. Listed as a cobalt blue, this jelly doesn’t fail to impress.
DSC_0312
It dries to a semi-matte finish, which is actually how I prefer it. It truly plucks at my blue-loving heart strings. Again, the application was flawless. Two coats to opacity. You do have to be careful not to overload the brush and cause pooling on the nails, as those patches tend to take awhile to dry.

It is soooo so so so beautiful. I love the finish and the formula! This will definitely go down in my books as one of my favorite blues!

You can find Going Home Blues and Royal Flush at DDNK’s storenvy shop. They run $8.99, which puts it in my mid-price range on my Indie Designer List. They are definitely worth it and I can’t wait to try out more of these beautiful polishes! Make sure you like them on Facebook as well and tell them The Good Witch sent ya!

So sorry I’ve been neglecting you!

So so sorry, my Witchie-Poos! It’s been a heck of a few weeks. My son came home from his month-long vacation with my sister. It seems like he’s grown a foot or so. He’s only like two inches shorter than I am now. It’s scary. He’s only twelve.
I turned 33. It wasn’t as scary, or hasn’t been as scary as I thought it would be. I had a great day with my Mama Witch and my kiddlets. I got a new Vera Bradley purse, which I had to promptly return. Turns out that my strap was shorted about 10 inches. So we’ll see how long it takes them to send me a new one. It could take from 10-14 days and it’s already been a week. I want my purse back, dangit! lol
We had some gorgeous fireworks here at home and then again on the Fourth at Coffeyville, Kansas’ Fourth of July celebration thanks to the Cactus Hill Family.

Day Four: May I put you on hold while I run to my desk? Uh... You're not calling from a bridge or holding a weapon?

I really wish we could get up as close as we used to, but alas. Regulations are regulations. It was still a spectacular show and my Uncle Mel, my hubs and father in law and the rest of the guys (and gals) out there have never failed to take my breath away.
DSC_0078
I also found a field full of cheery sunflowers and couldn’t help but stop and take a few thousand pictures.

How can you not smile when you see them????

And of course, I had to add my take on a couple.
DSC_0029
I also found a wonderfully yummy tree-crowded lane…
DSC_0130
And a delightfully mysterious little alcove notched out in the trees.
It’s been kinda fun just driving around with my camera. I don’t do that very often anymore and I really, really need to. I miss being behind my camera.
So all in all, it’s been a kinda boring couple of weeks. I wish I had more awesome things to report, but unfortunately I don’t lol
I hope all my wonderful Witchie-Poos are taking it easy and staying cool. We just now got into the icky part of summer. Kinda nice that it’s taken this long!

Polish Review: Sidgra Nail Lacquer Popple

Among the Rainbow Brites, Cabbage Patch dolls and My Little Ponies, Popples have held a special place in my heart as one of my favorite toys of the 80’s. I had several, as did my sister and they were some of our most prized toys.

They were bright and colorful, always cheerful and a great place to hide some of your smaller special objects you didn’t want a pesky sibling to find. Mine always slept in bed with me and were carried around and played with continuously until I decided at 14, I was too big to play with stuffed animals anymore. Therefore, my beloveds were stashed away in my toy box in my closet and are now in storage.

But tonight I bring you a bright flash of the 80’s back in Sidgra’s Popple polish. A beautiful matte neon glitter topper!

DSC_0272

Chock full of medium and micro matte hex glitters in yellow, pink, purple and blue, Popple is definitely reminiscent of my favorite toys!

DSC_0279

Doesn’t it remind you of Debbie Gibson, jellie sandals, LA Gears and Jordache jeans?! So 80’s and I loooove it!!!

DSC_0344

Here I’m paring Popple with Conjured by Amanda Wampler’s Warning and it’s a perfect pairing. I honestly couldn’t imagine wearing this polish with anything else! lol

DSC_0348

It really accentuates the glitters and helps them pop!

DSC_0352

Friday while we were out garage sailing, my mom just happened to find this Popple wall hanging, which also happens to be the big Popple that I had growing up! How cool is that?!

Sidgra has an awesome 5-free formula that makes the polish glide on smooth as silk and dries phenomenally fast.

You can find Popple, and other fabulous polishes at Sidgra’s website. Make sure to like her on facebook and also follow her on Pinterest. She shows a lot of her polishes in action on Pinterest!

Friday the 13th and Other Silly Superstitions

Everyone knows that today is Friday the 13th. Everyone knows what that means. It means bad things will happen today. Don’t get out of bed, don’t even peek over the covers because you know that bad luck will surely find you. Well that’s if you’re superstitious.

DSC_0386

Or if you’re this poor guy… I saw this minibus earlier today up town and by the time we got home (after stopping one place) it was three blocks from my home engulfed in flames. This guys Friday the 13th evidently was pretty shytty. I don’t think there were any injuries due to this fire. Thank goodness.

That brings me to the reason for this post. I’m going to share a few of the superstitions that have been passed down from generation to generation in my family.

black-cat-with-black-eyes

The main superstition that everyone knows is “Don’t let a black cat cross your path”. Personally, it freaks me out when one crosses my path lol. They say to counteract the curse, you must turn in a circle three times. And I do that LOL Even in my car. I’ve gone around the block three times before continuing on my way.

haloaroundthemoon

“If you see a halo around the moon, it means a storm is coming”. And it is true. Usually you see a halo around the moon in the colder months right before a snow storm. But I have seen them in the summer time, and they’re usually always accurate. The bigger the halo, the worse the storm.

article-2230328-01F443EF0000044D-622_634x799

“Don’t walk under a ladder, you’re sure to bring yourself bad luck”. I myself go out of my way to avoid walking under a ladder.

Broken_mirror_chaos_deities_death

“Break a mirror and it’s seven years bad luck”. And it’s happened with me lol.

Hedgeapple_closeup_2.1094931

Another bit of weather superstition… The bigger the hedge apples, the harder the winter. I’ve also noted this to be true.

keep-your-nose-out-of-my-business

“When your nose itches, someone’s coming without their britches.” or someone is just coming to see you.

ears-clip-art-8-150x150

“When your ears burn, someone is talking about you.”

ailmentSweatyPalms

When your left palm itches, it means you’re going to get a letter. When your right palm itches, it means you’re going to get money. If both itch, it means you’re going to get money in a letter. I’ve had this happen to me numerous times. Its always kind of fun!

img20050101_01_Orion

When the constellation Orion lays down, it means the weather is changing.

BigDipper

When the Big Dipper is tipping up, it means it will rain soon.

a-salt-shaker-which-has-fallen-over

If you spill salt, throw some of it over your left shoulder to ward off bad luck.

squirrel-ears_304913

When a Hedge Apples leaves are as big as a squirrels ear, the fear of frost is gone.

1854188_orig

When a broom falls over (on its own), company is coming.

fish-crow-01_13589_600x450

Crows have been said by Native Americans to be the souls of the dearly departed coming back to Earth to watch over their loved ones.

fairy_1482068c

If the mushrooms in your yard form a circle, the fairies will come out and play at night and cause mischief in your garden.

BayingAtMoon

When a dog beys or cries, it means someone has died.

Lavender-1

Always plant lavender for luck.

hand-crafted-rocking-chair

If a rocking chair rocks on its own, someone will pass away.

11246

An outdoor bird flying around in your house is surely a sign someone is going to die. Why is it that so many superstitions center around people dying?!

woolly-bear_BobCongdon

The size of the orange stripe on a Wolly Bear Caterpillar’s back shows how long and hard the winter will be.

squirrel-snow-on-tail

The bushier and thicker a squirrels tail is in the spring and summer shows how harsh the winter will be.

OK so a lot of my superstitions are weather based. Those are the ones that my grandpa always told me. He also told me, always plant your potatoes around St. Patty’s Day in the dark of the moon. So far so good, my potatoes are looking fabulous.

What kind of superstitions were you raised with? Let me know in the comments!
