So… Come Friday I will be on the road with my dad, step-mum and my two kids. We’re headed to Branson, Mo to see The Liverpool Legends, a musical group created by the late George Harrison’s sister Linda.
My dad saw them a year or two ago and said they were about the best you can get without really seeing the original Beatles. And I’m a huge Beatles freak, so I’m sure to be in the 7th layer of heaven.
I’ve figured out what I am going to wear for the concert…
That was a pretty easy one. I just couldn’t figure out what to do with my nails… I have pleanty of Beatles-themed polishes… and I’ve got some water-slide decals… But I wanted something different. So I came up with a variation of my tie dyed shirt for my nails. And I must say, I am very pleased with the results!!
Here’s what you’ll need:
You’ll need a rainbow of polishes. L to R: Sally Hansen’s Cherry Red, Ozotic 198, Orly’s Orange Punch, NYC’s Lexington Yellow, LA Color’s Mint, China Glaze’s Frostbite and LA Color’s Boomerang. You’ll also need a dotting tool or a pin, acetone and your cleanup brush and your favorite topcoat. I used Out the Door.
Step One: Working on ONE finger at a time, and at a quick pace, start out with red in the location of your choice. Use a rather heavy hand, as it needs to stretch all the nail.
Step Two: Using a heavy hand with the rest of the colors, edge the red and then work your way out. Don’t worry if some of the colors meld together, it will look great in the end.
Step Three: This is what you get once you put red, orange, pink (not shown in the pictures), yellow, green, blue and purple.
Step Four: Next take your dotting tool and pull down from the top corner and work your way down, then drag down a line diagonal to the rest. Sometimes you’ll have to clean off your dotting tool and also the sides where the polish pools.
Repeat these steps to all of your nails. When done and you remove (or try to remove) most of the excess polish off most of your nail, get your acetone and cleanup brush out and clean up the excess spillage.
Top with topcoat and you’re done!
Sometimes your colors will pull through the others and get kinda melded up. And there might be a few bare spots where you dragged the dotting tool or pin down too far and went straight to nail like I did in a few spots. I really love how this mani turned out and I hope that it’ll stay intact all week. If not, I can always redo it on Thursday.
So yeah, I’ll be rockin’ these nails this week and hopefully into the next weekend. I will be sure to take lots of pictures and share them on here! I hope everyone has a groovy weekend!!!!
Now, if you know me, you will know I am a HUGE Beatles fan. It's actually a little embarrassing. Ok, well it might not be embarrassing for me, but it might be for people that have to be around me (and my insanely loud tye-dyed shirts LOL)
When I began on my polish journey I had no idea there were Beatles themed nail polishes until I stumbled across Deborah Lippmann's Across the Universe. And I was in love. It officially became my first lemming.
I mean, how can you not be in love with this? It's an awesome Beatles song (Let It Be, Track 7) and a kick ASS movie
If you haven't seen Across the Universe, you need to. I have never tried drugs, I don't condone the use of drugs, but I'm pretty sure that that movie is basically what trippin' is like.
Anyways, I digress (which I will be doing a LOT in this post.)
DL's version of Across the Universe is a gorgeous dark blue jelly base full of hexes of different shades of blue and green of all different sizes. It's freaking gorgeous.
My next Beatles themed polish was China Glaze's Strawberry Fields. Named for the song Strawberry Fields Forever (Magical Mystery Tour, Track 8) China Glaze's "interpretation" is so-so. It's bright, colorful, cheery. Which was basically the theme of The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour album which was pretty much LSD derived (or transcendental meditation derived- however you want to look at it. There had to be some kind of hallucination going on for them to come up with some of these songs lol)
She's a beaut, ain't she? A nice bright pink creme is laced with orange flakies to produce this gorgeous little gem.

In this picture it kind of reminds me of the red gate that is outside of the original Strawberry Fields in England...
Someday I will go there... Damnit...
My next one was HM's Across the Trailer Park, which I freaking love the play on words (I live in a trailer park, duh) and I love the fact that it's a less-expensive almost-dupe of DL's ATU.
It's a blue jelly base with the same blue and green hex mix, only in different shades as DL's
To be honest, I like HM's better than DL's. But that's just me. The hexes aren't as big, and I hate to say it but my DL is slightly taco-ing. Not cool, yo.
Here's Fiona Apple singing ATU, which is a pretty damned nice cover if you ask me. It was in Pleasantville, btw.
Now come the Holy Grail of my Beatles polish collection. *angels sing on high*
Hey Jude, by Enchanted Polish. Some say it was written for Lennon's mother, some say it was written for Julian- Lennon's son. (Past Masters Vol. 2, Track 7). One of my all time favorite Beatles songs. I can remember singing this to my son when he was fussy as an infant.
Enchanted created a wonderful duo-chrome scatter holo for Hey Jude that really, really does it justice. Sooooo beautiful, haunting almost.
Next up is Octopus's Garden (Abbey Road, Track 5). Which, honestly, I have a hell of a time telling the difference between it and Enchanted's version of Across the Universe. But, it is one of the few songs that my favorite Ringo got to sing and thus makes it a classic.
It's another gorgeous duo-chrome with scattered holo in it.
Enchanted's version of Across the Universe is much like Octopus's Garden as you can see:
It's the gorgeous duo-chrome, but it's a little more greenish purple when Octopus's Garden is a little more blueish purple.

Now there's three more Enchanted's (well four if you count the elusive Penny Lane) that I want, that some day I'll get. But for right now, I'll settle for a close dupe of Enchanted's I Am the Walrus (Magical Mystery Tour, Track 6).
My friend Amy made this beauty called Wicked, completely unaware that she was soooo close to duping IATW. It's a gorgeous deep mahogany red with scattered holo that's just melt in your mouth gorgeous. I just received this polish today after wanting it FOREVER and I couldn't be happier!
Such a beauty!

Next on the list is my accidental find by Whimsical by Pam. She's an awesome gal who sells from her Facebook page and makes quite a killing on it.
When you think of Magical Mystery Tour (Magical Mystery Tour, Track 1) you're smothered in bright colors, purples, pinks, yellows, greens. A symphony of sound and thought.
Pam captured that in this gorgeous polish. A creamy purple base is chock full of different-sized blue hex glitters for a Magical free-for-all!
How can you not like this polish?! I mean, c'mon! It's so bright and happy and cheerful! Makes you want to break out into song every time you look at it (or listen to it!)
This one isn't quite a Beatles themed polish, even though I think it is.
Pretty and Polished's Day Trippin' (Day Tripper, Yesterday and Today, Track 11. Btw, useless piece of Beatles knowledge- the original cover art for Yesterday and Today was banned from production after it was released in small quantities. Dubbed "The Butcher Cover" it portrays the Boys in lab coats with disembodied baby dolls and blood adorning them. A Butcher Cover album cover with LP is worth... A LOT!)
Not only is it a catchy freakin song, this polish... FREAKING rocks. It was my first Pretty & Polished purchase and it's a color changer! The deep purple turns to pretty pink when warm. And if you have long nails, then it goes to purple on your tips to pink on the beds.
Not only is it pretty and fun to use, it has awesome glitter in it that glints in the sun but you can barely tell is there until then!
My last two are probably my favorites. Made by the same gal that made Wicked before it, Glass Onion (White Album, also known as The Beatles, Track 3) is very close to my heart. I can remember late nights spent in my living room growing up with my dad listening to the White Album on the stereo. Playing Glass Onion over and over again.
Amy captured the mystery and mystique of The Glass Onion in this gorgeous polish. Silver and green hex mingle with holo hex and micro glitter to make this gorgeous topcoat.
I can sit here and stare at this polish for hours if you'd let me.
*sigh*
Last but not least, the gorgeous, the haunting, the mysterious... Blackbird...
Every time I say the name I immediately begin humming/singing the tune. I'm singing this now in my head. This song is so touching, so moving, so incredibly beautiful and this polish that Amy created for me mirrors it completely.
All kinds of square, diamond, shard and hex glitters swim in a translucent black jelly base.
Wait til you see this beauty with the flash.....
BOOM! Look at the iridescence! It looks just like a blackbird's wing. It's visually stunning, I tell ya.
