Princess Leia Bun Head Band- Knitting Tutorial

Ok. This is my first self-written knitting pattern, so please be gentle with me!!!

My sister requested this headband pretty much the second I learned how to knit. I couldn’t afford the patterns that are all over the web, so I decided to try my hand at making my own.

Supplies:

US 7 size straight needles

Worsted weight yarn (364 yards) <~ You won’t need this much, but it’s always nice to have a backup!

Tapestry Needle

Fiber Fill

Headband

Cast on 20 sts using long tail cast on method.

*knit row 1 & 2

Purl row 3 & 4

Repeat from *

Continue until headband is correct length. Make sure to “measure” it around your head periodically or measure. Divide the circumfrence in half and that is how long your headband needs to be. I have a large head, so mine was around 10” or more.

There should be a lot of stretch and give.

Bind off and sew seams together. Weave in ends.

Buns

Co 20 stitches using long tail cast on.

K row 1

P row 2

Continue until measures 24 inches.

Bind off, leave long tail.

To assemble:

Fold brown “tube” in half right sides in. Using the tail, sew the seam tightly. When finished, turn inside out.

Fill with fiber fill and stitch end close on an angle. Roll your braid using the angled end as the beginning (middle) of braid. Roll the braid tightly and stitch the edges together closest to the inside of the braid to hide your stitches.

Position your bun on the headband and tack stitch the bun tightly to it.

Repeat with second bun and enjoy!

I seriously loved making this. It was quite tedious but it was well worth it in the end!
