Polish Review: LynBDesigns

I’ve featured LynBDesigns on the blog quite a few times. I love her polishes, customer service, nail care etc. And the two polishes that I recently purchased do not disappoint!

LynBDesignsDefenderofthedowntrodden3

Defender of the Downtrodden is up first. A Downton Abbey (don’t shoot me, I’ve never seen a single episode LOL) inspired polish, Defender is a beautiful sheer white polish with a subtle hint of holo.

LynBDesignsDefenderoftheDownTrodden

It does take three or more coats to reach opacity, but the dry time is very minimal which helps.

LynBDesignsDefenderofthedowntrodden2

This one is taken with flash and it truly does sparkle.

LynBDesignsDefenderofthedowntrodden5

LynBDesignsPotter2

Potter is listed as a “black jelly linear holo with both taupe and purple micro glass flecks.” It definitely has a lot of holo shine to it!

LynBDesignsPotter

GAHHH!!! So prettiful!!!!

LynBDesignsPotter3

And man the application is like silk. Opaque in two coats, but I put on three just to be sure.

All in all these are fantastic polishes and a true credit to their respective fandoms!

Check out these and countless other polishes at LynBDesigns’ Etsy Page. Also frequent her Facebook page as she is constantly having sales!

Polish Review: Literary Lacquer

I have always been a champion of Literary Lacquer. Amy, the owner, is a very dear friend of mine who releases mind-bogglingly wonderful polishes one after another without fail. Her customer service is always spot-on and she’s well… She’s just the salt of the earth.

Her holo polishes are unrivaled. Literary Lacquers has had one of my favorite holographic formulas since I started dabbling in the polish world. They’re super pigmented, super sparkly and flawless.

I’ve been hiding under a rock for awhile, and dropped out of touch with dear Amy and the rest of the polish world. A couple of months ago, (tax time, y’know lol) I was perusing through the wares and happened onto something I hadn’t seen before.

Cremes. Beautiful, silky smooth, unfettered cremes. And they were all so beautiful. It was so hard to just pick three. I didn’t want to pick just three. But at $9.50, while not as expensive as some of the others, was still a little bit for me to spend. So I held tight to my girdle and only ordered three.

And those three have hooked me. So I’m setting aside as much change as I can to purchase some more.

So… Without further adieu, here are the beauties I purchased.

LiteraryLacquersBreathingDreamslikeairIreneBluestockingromance

From l to r  Breathing Dreams Like Air; Irene and Bluestocking Romance (can you tell which one is my favorite?)

LiteraryLacquersIrene3

First up I have Irene; listed as a “seductive deep red creme polish”. It’s opaque at two coats. This blood-red vamp of a color is just so yummy… Even on my little nubbins!

LiteraryLacquersIrene2

It would make a fabulous jelly sammich, which I am going to try out sometime!

LiteraryLacquersIrene

Just for S&G’s (shyts and giggles) I decided to throw LynBDesigns’ B-Matte topcoat over it and it didn’t fail to impress one single bit. Dry time on this and the other two polishes are next to nil.

LiteraryLacquersBreathingDreamsLikeAir2

Breathing Dreams Like Air is a Great Gatsby-inspired lilac-grey creme polish. I’m not one for lilac in general, but this just called my name. Plus I have a hidden love for The Great Gatsby lol.

LiteraryLacquersBreathingDreamsLikeAir

This beauty honestly only needed one coat, but I did as directed and two was sheer perfection.

LiteraryLacquersBluestockingRomance2

Lastly… Beautiful, beautiful Bluestocking Romance. One coat and perfection. I was amazed. But so pleased. I can’t wait to use this once my nails get a bit longer.

Evidently these are all polishes that stamp well; but I wouldn’t know because I don’t stamp… I’ve tried, but ugh… I suck so badly at it that I haven’t tried it again and it’s been close to four or more years, lol.

You can find these three beauts and countless others in Amy’s Etsy shop. You can also stop by her Facebook page and show her some love as well!

Polish Review: P.O.P Nail Polish

I have SIX GORGEOUS polishes to share with you from P.O.P Nail Polish.

Ranging from $3 for minis, to $8 for full size (with a medium in there as well!) they’re in the medium price range of my Indie Designer List.

The formula P.O.P uses is phenomenal; dry time is nil and the finishes (some are matte and I’ll get to that in a second) are breathtaking.

POPPolishPyrrhus

Pyrrhus is listed as: "a Medium to Dark Red Matte, from my Smoke & Mirrors Collection. These are a one coat, smooth, and creamy formula.”

POPPolishPyrrhus4

It only took two coats to reach complete opacity with this stunner. While it looks more red in the bottle, it leaned toward orange with my skin tone.

POPPolishPyrrhus3

Eeep! For a matte it certainly is gorgeous! I don’t think I’ve ever come across a sparkly true matte polish.

POPPolishPyrrhus2

When you apply a high shine topcoat it really, really shines.

POPPolishDarkDenim

POPPolishDarkDenim5

Next up is Dark Denim, another in the Smoke collection of mattes. Two coats as before.

POPPolishDarkDenim3

With a topper it just sparkles.

POPPolishDarkDenim4

Even without a flash it shines! *drool*

POPPolishDarkDenim2

POPPolishMyPortrait

My next beauty up is My Portrait. Listed as: “My first collection inspiration, is from the work of the incredible, "Tamara De Lempicka." The color is inspired by her Work Titled "My Portrait." This is a beautiful glowing Dark Teal!” And it doesn’t disappoint.

POPPolishMyPortrait3

Opaque in two coats, I had to shoot this with a flash because of the horribly sporadic nature of the lighting in Kansas. We’re in the middle of our “Can’t Make Up Our Mind” Season LOL.

POPPolishMyPortrait2

POPPolishDragonflyWings

Next I have Dragonfly Wings, a beautiful color shifting topcoat that can be worn by itself or with another polish for added sparkle.

POPPolishDragonflyWings5

Here I’m showing it in natural (cloudy) lighting using Literary Lacquers’ Bluestocking Romance as undies. I LOVE it. Index finger has a bit heavier coat than the other three.

POPPolishDragonflyWings4

*babbles incoherently* OMG. Shown with flash.

POPPolishDragonflyWings2

Light coat.

POPPolishDragonflywings3

Heavier coat. Still beautiful.

OK the next two are my favorites from the polishes she sent me!

POPPolishHeliotrope

*sigh* Heliotrope is listed as “an intense Plum/Purple Mega Holo” and it doesn’t fail to please. It flashes in the bottle, even in indirect light.

POPPolishHeliotrope4

As I was saying… OMG… Three coats to reach complete opacity, then a layer of topper.

POPPolishHeliotrope2

OMG! Could it be?! I actually found a moment of sunlight?! Surprised smile And maaaaaaaaaaaan it’s a stunna!

POPPolishHeliotrope3

POPPolishAtlantis

Lastly I have Atlantis, listed as “an intense blue mirror” it almost has a foil-like look to it. Which is stunning. And y’all know how much I love my blues!

POPPolishAtlantis2

This is shown in (rare) sunlight. I tried to go with a flash but OMG it blew it out something horrible LOL. Two coats is all this stunner took to shine.

POPPolishAtlantis3

It’s sooooo prettiful!

All in all I am super impressed with these polishes. You can find the ones I’ve listed and more in her Etsy shop. Make sure to tell her The Good Witch sent ya!

Polish Review: Ysadora Lacquers

OK. I suck. We know this. I established why in my prior post. I’ve been sitting on these pretties for quite awhile, which is inexcusable I know. So I’m very, truly sorry.

I’ve got two pretties from Ysadora Lacquers up for your viewing pleasure.

YasadoraLacquersCosmos2

YasadoraLacquersCosmos

Up first is Cosmos, which it looks to be out of commission in the shop, which is a pity. It’s a gorgeous sky blue holographic polish that shimmers so beautifully. The pictures above were taken with flash, the ones below are in regular natural lighting.

YasadoraLacquersCosmos4

YasadoraLacquersCosmos3

Either way you look at it, it’s beautiful. Opaque in three coats, dry time is great!

YasadoraLacquersHebe

Next up is Hebe; listed as “Hebe is the Greek goddess of youth. She is personified in this youthful pastel glitter nail polish. The soft white crelly base is accented by pastel pink, yellow, lavender, silver, green and blue hex and square glitters.” I really, honestly suck at getting crelly glitters to lay flat and look right. But this is a beautiful formula, so don’t let my messed up attempt fool you lol

yasadoralacquersHebe2

Opaque in two coats it is the perfect polish for Spring and is available in her shop right now!

You can find Hebe and some other pretties waiting for you in her Etsy shop. As they are priced at $8.50 for a full size bottle, they are more than affordable and the quality is perfect. Go check her out!

Recipe Corner: Cinnamon Rolls and Pecan Sticky Buns

*le sigh* I know, I know. I’ve been neglecting you sweet, awesome Witchie-Poos and I’m sincerely sorry about that. My life has gone completely and utterly haywire the last few months. I’ve been trying to keep my head above water depression wise and I just haven’t had the energy to do anything. There. I was truthful with y’all.

So I start today trying to scratch my way to the proverbial surface and offer you a recipe tutorial for my favorite, super nummy cinnamon rolls. I was cranking these babies out right and left around Christmas time in my wonderful seasonal-induced mania. My family actually got tired of them… What the hoohay?! How can anyone get tired of these??!

DSC_0115

I mean, c’mon?!

OK… You’re going to need flour, active dry yeast, milk, granulated sugar, butter or margarine, salt, eggs, brown sugar and ground cinnamon. That’s for the cinnamon roll recipe (recipe follows).

DSC_0002

Throw 2 cups of flour and the yeast in your mixer bowl.

DSC_0004

In a saucepan heat and stir the milk, butter (or margarine), sugar and salt until the temperature holds between 120F and 130F. Any hotter and you run the risk of killing the yeast. Any cooler and you run the risk of not activating the yeast.

DSC_0009

125.6F BOOM! Sweet spot.

DSC_0011

Add that to your flour/yeast mixture. Smell the yummy starting to form in that bowl. It smells so good.

DSC_0015

Add your eggs. Blend on low for 30 seconds.

DSC_0019

Blend on medium speed for 3 minutes. You can really start smelling the yeast now. GAH!

DSC_0024

You end up with this wonderful bubbly mess.

DSC_0025

Start adding the remaining flour a little at a time until you get something that looks like that.

DSC_0028

Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and start kneading it. You want to knead it for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.

DSC_0032

And it looks like this!

DSC_0035

Put it in a greased bowl and cover with greased plastic wrap. Set your oven at 375F and place the bowl close to the back of your stovetop so it can stay warm and cozy while it rises. Now you have to wait what seems like FOREVER for it to raise. It can take anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how warm your kitchen is.

And then forget to take a picture of the risen dough in the bowl before punching it down and taking it out… Like I did…

DSC_0038

While you’re waiting you can go ahead and get your filling ready. Right now we’re doing cinnamon rolls, so combine your butter, brown sugar and cinnamon and mix it up all nimbly pimbly like.

DSC_0063

Once your dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out on a floured surface.

DSC_0066

Poke a belly button in your dough. Not sure why I did this. Probably because it looked funny.

DSC_0067

Roll it out, roll it out and mark it with a B! Wait… Wait… Shoooo… Nevermind…

Just roll it out. It’s up to your discretion if you mark it with a B.

DSC_0073

Spread out your filling.

DSC_0075

Succumb to lower back pain and have your hubby roll up the cinnamon rolls.

DSC_0080

He does do it better than I do.

DSC_0084

Cut them into reasonable cinnamon roll sized portions.

DSC_0089

Throw them in a pan! Cover it up with some of the greased plastic wrap that you used earlier and let them rise AGAIN. This time for 30 minutes.

DSC_0049

At this time you can also get around to toasting up some pecans for your pecan sticky buns. Or don’t roast em. It’s up to you.

DSC_0051

Then you make your sauce. (Recipe for this follows as well).

DSC_0054

You mix it up.

DSC_0058

You boil.

DSC_0087

You layer the caramel sauce in with the roasted pecans and place your cinnamon rolls (with added pecans on the inside) and rise as normal.

Then you wait forever until you can put them in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden.

Invert the sticky buns on a platter.

DSC_0109

Revel in their ooey-gooey goodness.

While the regular cinnamon rolls are cooling off slightly, you can start the frosting.

DSC_0095

Throw butter, cream cheese and vanilla in a mixer with a wisk attachment and cream them up. Add your powdered sugar little by little. If the frosting is too thick for you, you can gradually add milk until you reach the consistency you desire. I like a good, full bodied frosting so I don’t add any milk.

DSC_0113

Frost them puppies with all that unadulterated creamy goodness and revel in their awesomeness.

DSC_0115

You know you want to.

Now here’s the recipe:

Awesome Cinnamon Rolls

4 to 41/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 pkg (1 1/2 tsp) active dry yeast

1 c milk

1/2 c granulated sugar

1/2 tsp salt

2 eggs

3/4 c packed brown sugar

1/4 c all-purpose flour

In a large bowl combine two cups of the flour and the yeast. Set aside.

In a saucepan, combine and stir milk, granulated sugar and salt until warm. (120F-130F) add to flour mixture along with eggs. Beat with electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds. Scrape your bowl. Beat on high for another 3 minutes. Using a wooden spoon, add the remaining 2-21/2 cups flour.

Turn dough out onto a floured surface. Knead enough flour into dough to make a soft dough that is smooth and elastic (3-5 minutes). Put your dough in a greased bowl and cover with greased plastic wrap. Place dough in a warm place and let double in size- 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Punch your dough down. Place it on your work surface. Split dough in half and cover with greased plastic wrap. Let sit for 10 minutes so it can rest.

Grease up your baking pans.

Roll out your dough into a rough rectangle that’s a pretty good size. You be the judge.

Stir together your brown sugar, 1/4 c flour and cinnamon with a fork or something. Spread out your filling. Roll up them rolls. Cut with a bench cutter or knife. Place in greased pan. Cover again with plastic wrap. Place in warm spot and let rise for 30 more minutes. When all hope is lost, uncover and bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes or until gold and beautiful.

While cinnamon rolls are cooling, prepare the cream cheese frosting:

In your mixing bowl (clean, yo!) combine 3 oz of cream cheese, 2 tbsp of softened butter or margarine and 1 tsp of vanilla. Gradually add 2 or so cups of powdered sugar until smooth. If wanted, add milk a tsp at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

Caramel Pecan Rolls:

Follow the directions up until the filling part. In a small pan, combine 2/3 c packed brown sugar, 1/4 c butter or margarine, and 2 tbsp light corn syrup. Stir over medium until combined.

Pour into prepared pecan-filled pan. Place cinnamon rolls with pecans inside the pan. Bake as before. Invert onto platter when it comes outta the oven. Try not to burn yourself when you can’t help but trying one. It’s ok. No judgments.
